“Introspection; in psychology, it’s a method that involves expressing the observations and inferences of the perception, sensation, thoughts and feelings experienced by the person against a stimulus. This method; It’s based on the assumption that "an experience cannot be observed by anyone other than the person experiencing it". That is, the observer and the observed are the same person.”

“İntrospeksiyon; İç gözlem veya içe bakış. Psikolojide bir uyarıcı karşısında kişinin deneyimlediği algı, duyum, düşünce ve duygularındaki gözlem ve çıkarımlarını ifade etmesini içeren bir metottur. Bu metot; «bir deneyimi onu yaşayan kişiden başkası gözlemleyemez» varsayımına dayanmaktadır. Yani, gözleyen ve gözlenen aynı kişidir.”

Imagine a woman born with a single eye socket and globe, with lenses and vision on both sides. What would it be like if we could constantly monitor ourselves as we could observe the outside?

With the inspiration I got from Kant, who said, "The place of the self is time", I constructed a description. With the "vortograph" technique used by A. L. Coburn, who is considered the first abstract photographer, I took a photograph through three mirror tunnel and positioned it behind the photograph of my eye thanks to the triptych frame.

İki tarafında da mercek ve görüş olan tek göz yuvası ve küresiyle dünyaya gelmiş bir kadın hayal edin. Dışarıyı gözleyebildiğimiz gibi benliğimizi de sürekli izleyebiliyor olsaydık nasıl olurdu?

"Benliğin mekânı zamandır" diyen Kant'tan aldığım ilhamla bir tasvir kurguladım. İlk soyut fotoğrafçı kabul edilen A. L. Coburn'un kullandığı "vortograf" tekniğiyle üç ayna tünelinden fotoğraf çektim ve bunu triptik çerçeve sayesinde gözümün fotoğrafının arkasına konumlandırdım.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The project basically tells a story that examines concepts such as memory, eye-sight, perception, mind and self. This story is about a young woman. The young woman was born with a single eye located in the middle of the face instead of two. But this eye has two lenses and two visions looking in opposite directions, one facing out and the other inside the head. Throughout her life, while observing everything outside, the woman had to simultaneously watch a piece of mind that represents her own self. That is, she is in organic contact with her self. This is of course more suffering than a blessing, and facing one's self in any situation is an unbearable burden.

The project isn’t concerned with why the woman is experiencing this, the cause or the consequences of this issue. It tries to focus on the conceptual side of the story through photography.

PROJE HAKKINDA

Proje temelde bellek, göz-görüş, algı, zihin, benlik gibi kavramları irdeleyen bir hikâye anlatır. Bu hikâye genç bir kadınla ilgilidir. Genç kadın, yüzünde iki adet yerine yüzün ortasında konumlanan tek bir göz ile doğmuştur. Fakat bu gözün biri dışarı diğeri kafanın içine bakacak şekilde zıt yönlere bakan iki merceği ve iki görüşü vardır. Kadın, ömrü boyunca dışarıdaki her şeyi gözlerken aynı anda kendi benliğini temsil eden bir zihin parçasını da izlemek zorunda kalmıştır. Yani benliği ile organik bir temas içindedir. Bu elbette bir lütuftan ziyade ızdıraptır ve benliğiyle her durumda yüzleşiyor olmak çekilmez bir yüktür.

Proje, kadının bunu neden yaşadığıyla, bu meselenin sebep ya da sonuçlarıyla ilgilenmez. Hikâyenin kavramsal tarafına fotoğraf aracılığıyla odaklanmaya çalışır.
